Summary
The US onAir Network will be working with volunteers from Nevada universities, colleges, and nonprofit organizations to oversee the curation and moderation of posts, aircasts (online discussions), and in person events for the Nevada onAir Hub … related to federal, state, and local elections and government.
Our first outreach will be to University of Nevada Reno partly because of its proximity to the state capital. We have identified many of University of Nevada Reno’s civic engagement, academic, internship and research programs related to making democracy and civic responsibility a focus of higher learning on their campus … for students, faculty, staff, and local community. This post, over time, will have similar information on other collaborating organizations in the state.

About
The University of Nevada ‘s onAir chapter will initially focus on training interested undergrad and graduate students on how to curate Nevada onAir content especially submitting Top News articles, events, videos, and information and moderating forums in each post they curate.
Student curators will also work with state senate and house committee chairs to produce aircasts on issues being discussed and bills being proposed in their committees.
During election season, students with other other organizations like the League of Women Voters, will coordinate and produce aircasted debates with candidates.

About Student Engagement
The ASUN Administration/Center for Student Engagement works collaboratively with the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) and The Office of the Associate Vice President for Student Life Services under the Division of Student Services to engage, educate and empower undergraduate students to take action in the best interest of the student body and the University community.
We nurture a culture that fosters learning outside of the academic classroom by creating an educational environment that connects the campus community to the importance of processes that lead to student self-governance. The Center for Student Engagement provides advising to ASUN’s appointed and elected officers, all clubs and organizations and its publications. Undergraduate Programs
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science offers students five different areas of study, from American government and politics to international relations, helping them develop an understanding of the institutions and policies that underpin modern politics.
Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs
The Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs is an interdisciplinary major for undergraduate students that allows them to explore topics ranging from international environmental studies to international political economy and more.
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/Secondary Education
The Bachelor of Arts with majors in Secondary Education and Political Science provides students with a broad background in political science and allows students to take all the necessary courses to meet state licensure to teach social studies, together with secondary teaching certification.
Graduate Programs
Accelerated Bachelor of Arts/Master of Arts in Political Science
The Accelerated B.A./M.A. combination degree option allows undergraduate students to pursue coursework to complete their Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts political science or public administration degrees in five years.
Master of Arts in Political Science
The Master of Arts in Political Science broadly covers the discipline, in both substance and methodology, teaching students how to conduct sophisticated analyses of political institutions, processes and policies.
Master of Public Administration
The Master of Public Administration (MPA) develops student familiarity with the social, political and economic environment of public programs and helps advance their managerial skills.
The Ph.D. offers students rigorous advanced academic training in the study of politics and policy. The program provides a strong foundation in research methods and substantive content, and allows our students to develop a program of study that meets their individual interests and career goals.

Internships

An internship is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. Internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths; and give employers the opportunity to guide and evaluate talent. Internships can last from 8 weeks up to a calendar year. The important element that distinguishes an internship from a short-term job or community service is the intentional “learning agenda” that the intern brings to the experience and the employer provides.
